Board Members and Officers
Sharon Blick – President. Sharon has a BS in entomology, an MS in biological ecology, and has taught high school biology and math. She founded Nearby Nature in 1992 and was the executive director and lead instructor for 3 years. She also taught nature classes for adults through LCC, Mt. Pisgah Arboretum, and other venues. Sharon started the Eugene Butterfly Count in 1991, co-founded the local NABA chapter in 2000, and currently serves as president. In 2003 she was hired as the executive director of the School Garden Project and ran that non-profit for 3 years. She has also served on the Board of Directors for Oregon Wild and Discovery Southeast. She is currently treasurer and board member of the Northwest Land Conservation Trust. Sharon enjoys camping, hiking, gardening, and reading.
Kira Davis – Vice-president. Kira Davis is a recent graduate of Western Washington University with a BS in Marine and Coastal Science. She also graduated from Wilderness Awareness School’s adult Immersion program and worked for them for 4 years as a youth mentor. She lives in a refurbished shipping container-turned-tiny house in Ferndale, WA with the farm cat who adopted her and enjoys fiber crafts, tide-pooling, cooking with wild edibles, and jumping in cold water.
Selena Blick – Secretary. Selena grew up on the property that is now the Living Earth Nature Sanctuary and spent many hours catching grasshoppers, watching barn swallows, and climbing trees. She majored in Environmental Studies at the University of Oregon and later attended the Wilderness Awareness School in Duvall, Washington and Nighthawk Naturalist School in Bend, Oregon to continue her naturalist studies. She currently lives in Portland and serves as Co-Chair of the Executive Committee for the Oregon Chapter of the Sierra Club while also working at the Oregon State Legislature.
Jim Blick – Treasurer. Jim has a PhD in zoology and has been watching birds since he was seven. He taught undergrads as a TA while he was in graduate school. He also has an MS in statistics and spent the past 38 years doing data management and analysis for the EPA, the Alaska Department of Fish and Game, and the University of Oregon. He is currently secretary and webmaster of the Lane County Butterfly Club and webmaster and board member of the Northwest Land Conservation Trust. Jim enjoys canoeing, camping, and nature study.
Olivia Goodheart – Board Member. Olivia was born and raised and currently lives in Lorane, with a passion for rural living and conservation work. Olivia works as a Resource Navigator at Connected Lane County and is enrolled in the University of Oregon’s Couples and Family Therapy Program to get her Master of Science. After graduating from Churchill High School in Eugene, Olivia attended Williams College in Massachusetts. She graduated with a BA in Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies, Political Science, and Spanish. In her free time, Olivia enjoys snuggling her four cats, reading, and curating her vast collection of indoor plants.
